Laser precision cutting Smallest kerf and most delicate contours

Precision cutting is a thermal cutting process in which a focused laser beam combined with a coaxial process gas flow produces a very narrow cut. Through a relative movement between the laser beam and the workpiece, flat parts as well as tubes and three-dimensional contours can be realized with high precision and kerfs of 10 µm and smaller.

Laser precision welding High-strength connections without additional material

Laser precision welding uses a focused laser beam as the energy source. The joining partners are firmly joined by a relative movement between the laser beam and the workpiece. The machining process takes place under shielding gas, such as argon or nitrogen, which prevents oxidation of the component surfaces. Depending on the process gas, material and laser parameters, the joining process is often determined by pure heat conduction, and in deep welding applications by the so-called keyhole effect.

Laser precision drilling Blazingly fast with minimal wear

Laser drilling is a non-chipping process in which the material is heated, melted and vaporized. The ablated material is blown out of the hole using the process gas. Pulsed lasers are often used, the energy input of which can be precisely regulated. In addition to a wide variety of shapes, holes with different depths can also be produced. This allows through-holes or blind holes with diameters of less than 5 µm, the conicity of which can also be influenced by corresponding laser parameters.

Laser precision ablation "Cold" processing of a wide range of materials

During laser ablation, material is vaporized layer by layer. The ablated layer thicknesses range from a few nm to a few µm. The process also allows thicker materials to be processed. Due to the low heat input, it is also referred to as cold processing. The thermal stress for the component is minimal. The use of femtosecond lasers also prevents residues in the form of molten material on the component surface. The ultrashort pulse laser also enables the processing of special materials such as glass.

We mainly use ultrashort pulse lasers for laser ablation. However, fibre lasers are of course also available for our contract manufacturing and plant construction in order to implement various ablation processes:

What are the advantages of laser micromachining compared to conventional manufacturing processes?

Laser micromachining is contactless, gentle on the material and highly precise. In contrast to mechanical processes, there is no tool wear and no deformation of the workpiece. As a result, the finest structures, smooth cutting edges and precise contours can be achieved - even with temperature-sensitive or difficult-to-machine materials. LLT Application thus achieves reproducible results with the highest surface quality, both for individual parts and in series production.

Which laser sources are used for the different applications?

We use various laser sources in our laser applications - including fiber lasers, Nd:YAG lasers and ultrashort pulse lasers. Our engineers select the optimum technology depending on the application and material: Fiber lasers for high cutting speeds in 3D laser cutting, ultrashort pulse lasers for micrometer-precise ablation processes or Nd:YAG lasers for precise welding of sensitive precision parts. Each process is perfectly tailored to the task at hand.

How are quality and repeat accuracy ensured in laser precision machining?

Our laser processes are fully monitored, documented and designed for maximum process stability. We guarantee consistently high quality through automated positioning systems, constant laser power and regular calibrations. In addition, a certified quality management system checks every production run to ensure that every precision part meets the specified tolerances exactly.

Can customized laser processes also be developed or adapted at LLT?

Yes, we develop individual laser processes for many customers - from parameter optimization to complete process development. In our application laboratory, we test materials, define laser parameters and create feasibility studies. This results in tailor-made processes with which special requirements for cutting quality, structuring or surface treatment can be precisely implemented.
